Sales 101: Understanding the 1:1 in 3 easy Steps

For promoting your business in Indianapolis, the  efficient sales person uses group presentations or web technologies for reaching more prospects, then schedules 1:1 appointments for conversations for warm buyers or hot leads.  Still, there are moments, when we risk time to meet with someone unknown just for a singular meet & greet for information discovery.

Typically, such appointments can be 30-60 minutes, which means each person has roughly 15-30 minutes to present their “schtick”.  The goal of the 1:1 is to determine 1 of 3 things.

1) Is there a potential direct sales or profitable partnership worthy of further conversation or connection between the two parties?

2) Is there a potential fundamental trust for the individual’s industry wisdom of either party to help them connect to someone in either party’s target market or someone connected to referral resources?

3) Are both parties comfortable enough with the other person’s communication style to stay connected?

Truthfully, only one side needs to be sold on continuing the relationship as some “courtships” take a little longer”… Within 15 minutes, it’s essential for each side to cover the following pieces of information:

A)  Business Card exchange and one page overview of services or products.  How does the professional serve others?

B) Primary business function of  how the individual helps their target market. What is the level of fundamental industry skill or unique professional experiential wisdom?

C) Main networking organizations of where one is exploring or seeking such targeted market. Could there be synergy for marketing cooperatives and referral sharing?

D) A balanced action plan of next steps connection for the professionals with item, accountability and deadline agreed upon.

Given the limited time together its essential that answers any questions in 1-3 sentences each.  It’s not a time to wax on and on.  To most people, the more you talk, the more self-absorbed or unprofessional you appear. Everything within the conversation needs to be permission based.  Don’t do any show and tell without asking permission, whether or not, the present time is appropriate.
